Pay off a Discover Card I closed last month at a lower rate with (hopefully) more friendly folk that Discover Card customer (dis)service.

My financial situation:

My husband and I are steadily employed with two cars that we own and a stable living situation.
This credit card was obtained in 1999 while I was finishing my Biology Degree; it covered what loans and work-study didn't.
We know how to live frugal with roommates, cooking at home, driving old cars, and shopping at the thrift store.
When we have paid this debt, improved our FICO, and saved a down-payment, we intend to buy a house with a local "first-time home owner's" program... while it's still a buyer's market!
